To become a tenant board member you have to be a Dales Housing tenant with a current tenancy.
You can put yourself forward to be a board member but you must also:
Dales Housing has divided its area into five localities or areas. Each tenant place on the board represents one of these localities.
The localities were created in order to help to ensure that tenant members of the board come from all over the district, as well as giving tenants from even the smallest of our communities the chance to serve on the board.
Where there is more than one candidate in the Locality, a secret, postal ballot will take place. Each candidate will be equally supported by Dales Housing, in the form of a canvassing flyer mailed out to all voters with a pre-paid envelope. All results of such a ballot will be dealt with securely, and be open to scrutiny by tenants if necessary.
If no one comes forward from the Locality, the board member place will be thrown open to other candidates from the four remaining localities, and the process explained above begins once more.
If the candidates involved get an equal amount of votes, the drawing of lots will elect the successful candidate if the candidates cannot agree amongst themselves.
If there is only one candidate, they will be accepted and formally nominated to the board by the tenant liaison group. No postal ballot will be held in this case.
As the board member role is very important you will receive training, support and guidance for your new role on a wide range of issues.
