Do I qualify to buy my home?
If you were a tenant of Derbyshire Dales District Council, and you became a tenant of Dales Housing at stock transfer on 4th March 2002, you may be able to buy your home under the preserved right to buy scheme.
Are there any reasons why I couldn’t buy my home?
Certain houses and flats are excluded from the preserved right to buy. These are properties which are particularly suitable for occupation by elderly persons.
Will I be entitled to any discount?
You may be entitled to a discount on the market value of your home which will depend on the length of your tenancy and the type of property you are applying to buy, up to a maximum of £24,000.
What if I decide to sell my home?
If you decide to sell your home within the discount repayment period you will have to repay some or all of the discount.
The discount repayment period if you applied to buy your home:-
- Before 18th January 2005 is three years
- After 18th January 2005 is five years.

Right to acquire
Do I qualify to buy my home?
If you became a tenant of Dales Housing after 4th March 2002 you may have the Right to Acquire. However, as well as occupying a qualifying property you must also:
- Have spent a total of two years as a public sector tenant, if you have been a public sector tenant since before January 2005. OR
- Have spent a total of five years as a public sector tenant, if your first public sector tenancy was created on or after 18th January 2005.
Are there any reasons why I couldn’t buy my home?
Some properties are exempt from the Right to Acquire. These include:-
- properties which are particularly suitable for occupation by elderly persons.
- properties in rural areas where the population is 3,000 or fewer.
Will I be entitled to any discount?
You will be entitled to a discount on the market value of your home which for the Derbyshire Dales area is set at £10,000 irrespective of length of tenancy.
What if I decide to sell my home?
If you decide to sell your home within the discount repayment period you will have to repay some or all of the discount.
The discount repayment period if you applied to buy your home:-
- before 18th January 2005 is three years.
- after 18th January 2005 is five years.
